Voting Rights Struggle

With the Supreme Court considering this keystone legislation, the civil rights community needed compelling proof of its relevance. New Media Mill was sent deep into the south to document individuals who, but for the Voting Rights Act, would have lost their right to vote. Meet a grandmother in rural South Carolina who does not have a birth certificate, and therefore would have been turned away at the polls under strict South Carolina voting laws. And we present the case of a young Texas college student, who did not have a drivers license and therefore would not have been allowed to cast a ballot under that state’s voter ID law.
